Montana Public Vehicle Fueling Program

Created in 1993 to help public agencies in Montana:

  • Get out of the costly fuel dispensing business and privatize fleet fueling
  • Simplify and automate accounting procedures associated with processing fuel transactions
  • Achieve greater control over fuel expenditures
  • Exemption of applicable Federal/State taxes at the point of sale

The program:

  • Serves 260 individual agency accounts for 8,200 vehicles in Montana, including state agencies, local governments, municipalities, school districts and special districts
  • Approximately 400,000 gallons per month processed
  • State entered into a contract in 1999 with WRIGHT EXPRESS (WEX) for 7 years
  • WEX Card is accepted at over 140,000 stations nationwide, including in Montana: Conoco, Exxon, Sinclair, Cenex, BP, Town Pump, Holiday Phillips 66, Texaco, Chevron, Amoco, Farst/d, Superpumper, Ezzie's, among others
  • Approximately 1,500 stations in over 200 cities in the State
  • Many locations, including all Town Pumps, are PAY-AT-THE-PUMP
